Children are our most precious beings. They are everything good and joyful in this world, innocent, beautiful, free, fun and undeniably spirited. Capturing that is a privilege and a gift. When we are able to see those magical characteristics come across in a picture, we as the viewer are brought to a better place. We are made happy. It is always my goal to create an environment for any child to feel free and comfortable to be themselves. Because I know how fleeting this time in their life is, how super important it is to document who they are at this very moment.

Local activists draft a doctrine to stave off the continued development of open spaces on Long Island.
With temperatures in the single digits this mid-January day, many homeless Long Islanders are feeling the bitter cold reality of their condition. However, in spite of the deep chill, there aren't many options for these folks to escape the arctic blast.
In this piece, Elyse Evans and I speak with a woman name DeDora Bayne who is not eligible to enter a shelter because she has a pet. She gives us insight into what it's like living on the street along with her best friend and only companion, her dog Yani. We also meet with advocates and activists in the midst of tallying and gathering up those like her who are shivering on the streets.
The short and informative piece is an undeniable depiction of the harsher side of Long Island. It strikes a resonant chord, reminding us to be grateful for that which we so often take for granted.
This is the story of a family, a loving family, and their little girl Beyla. I shot and edited this in one day. I had been pitching this story to my desk for two weeks, doing everything but begging them to cover it. The finally relented and gave me the go ahead the night before we shot it. It was a bit of a scramble but I think it came out well and Beyla and fam are irresistible.
Bike enthusiasts and folks just looking to ride to the beach are bummed about the fact they are being cut off at the pass to the ocean. See how me and my sleuth reporter get the best angle to get this story rolling.

Nearly three months after super storm Sandy's devastating blow, residents on the west end of Long Beach are being hit again. This time they are contending with the possibility of losing their beloved homes if they don't come up with the funds to resurrect their homes to meet FEMA flood standards. In some cases that means raising their homes at least 8 feet or more above sea level to protect them from future damage. If they don't they can't live in the homes. That translates to big bucks, which is something most in this predicament can't come up with. That means they might just have to walk away from the place they once called home.

This picture was taken during the March for Women's Lives back in 2004. It was about reproductive rights and women's rights. I thought this woman who isn't of age to necessarily bare children took a defiant pose like this in front of the omnipresent police. It shows that we stand on the shoulders of giants, women who came before us demanding the right to their own bodies.
This photo is special to me. It has that finesse.
She reminds me of my grandma Ethel. The Jewish people have suffered yet they insist on being joyous. Testament to their resilience and that there is no way to keep a people down. They will always rise up.
Logan was born with some twisted up intestines. When surgeons tried to straighten him out they caused severe brain damage due to he allergic reaction to the anesthesia. As result Logan was practically brain dead before his first month of life. He had to learn all the instinctual behaviors children do during their first year, liking suckling and sitting up, by way of repeated demonstration. He was 9-years-old at the times these photos were taken. He still wore diapers and had the vocabulary of an infant. However due to his parents unwavering commitment and the help of many therapists along with the he love of his nanny Liesl, Logan was able to overcome a negative prognosis and live life in a super human way. I was privileged enough to have access to his family and him for 6 weeks. If there was anything I learned about him and life is that we all just want to be loved no matter what, that is the human condition.
